Leadership

Shannon Wever, Managing Director

Shannon leads the Horizon New Energy team. Shannon has extensive experience in commercial negotiations and partnership development in the electricity and utility sectors in both competitive power generation and regulated utility businesses. Known for her inclusive and collaborative leadership approach, Shannon has developed renewable energy entry and growth strategies for a number of corporations and subsequently built and led the teams to execute the strategy.

A project developer at heart, Shannon has over 20 years of commercial and technical experience developing wind, solar, hydro, and gas-fired generation projects across Canada and the United States, working closely with a variety of stakeholders, including developing commercial partnerships with Indigenous communities.

Prior to joining Horizon New Energy, Shannon held leadership roles at ENMAX, NaturEner, ATCO Power, and TC Energy. Shannon has served on the boards of the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) and the Independent Power Producers Association of Alberta (IPPSA). Shannon holds an MBA from Rotterdam School of Management in The Netherlands, a Master’s in Environmental Science from Murdoch University in Australia, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary.

Gordon Verok

Gordon is the Director of Development at Horizon New Energy, drawing from over 11 years of experience within the utilities sector. He is well recognized for his leadership and technical knowledge, which he has applied to roles he held at Ontario's largest utility, a Canadian-based integrated renewable energy developer, and an international renewable energy developer.

Gordon's expertise encompasses a diverse skillset, including active participation in partnership collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and the complete lifecycle of renewable energy project development, from permitting and design to construction, throughout North America.

Before joining Horizon New Energy, Gordon held a key leadership position at ABO Wind Canada, where he played a pivotal role in securing permits for Canada's largest wind project. Under his guidance, the Canadian team expanded from 6 to 28 members and ventured into new markets across North America.

Gordon's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a business minor from the University of Toronto. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in both Alberta and Ontario.
