Buffalo Plains Wind Farm

Powering Alberta’s Clean Energy Future

The 495 MW Buffalo Plains Wind Farm project, located near Lomond, Alberta, will consist of 83 wind turbine generators and will benefit the community through job creation, lease, and property tax payments, as well as community vibrancy funds and a green option program. CIP initiated construction in the fall of 2023 and the Buffalo Plains Wind Farm is expected to commence operation in late 2024. Find out more about the Buffalo Plains Wind Farm here.

Aira Solar

Empowering Communities to Live More Sustainably

The Aira Solar project is a 450 MWac solar power development located 35 km southwest of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Utilizing over 1.15 million solar panels on approximately 4,480 acres of land, the project will contribute significantly to Alberta’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

With Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approval granted in March 2024 and all necessary County permits secured, Aira Solar is construction ready. The project is sited on non-irrigated agricultural land to minimize farming disruptions and incorporates a wildlife monitoring program.

Aira Solar is expected to create approximately 800 construction jobs, as well as five permanent jobs to support its ongoing operations and maintenance, and provide long-term economic benefits, including over $100 million in Municipal tax revenues throughout its lifecycle. At the end of its operational life, the land will be fully reclaimed to its original state. Aira Solar highlights Alberta’s potential to balance innovation, sustainability, and economic growth as we work towards a greener future.

Little Claybelt Wind Project

The Little Claybelt Wind Project is a proposed 150–200 megawatt wind energy development located in Hudson and Kerns Townships, Ontario. The project will help meet the significant growth in electricity demand in Ontario by supplying new electricity to the provincial grid.

Next Steps

As the project progresses through the planning and permitting phases, we are committed to engaging with landowners, indigenous communities, local government and the community in project planning to ensure transparency and collaboration. More information will be shared as the project advances.
